Anchored in the region, but at home in the world: that is Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB) with its 32,600 students and its 4,700 staff. As RUB welcomes people from across the globe, it is this highly cosmopolitan and dynamic setting which enables students and researchers from Germany and abroad to work closely together in studying, teaching and research.

Bochum was granted a town charter way back in the year 1321. But it was not until the great coal and steel boom in the 19th century that the town achieved more than regional significance.
